A race is red-flagged when any accident or any other
incident plays spoilsports. The solid red flag is displayed when
conditions are considered unsafe to continue the race or practice
session. The cars are directed to drive to pit road, or to stop at a
specific spot. Several hazards could prompt series officials to red flag
a race. The hazards could be like rain, darkness, a blocked course, a
car on fire, or a devastating multi-car crash.
